Forklift Certified Operator Training

A coach wouldn’t expect a player to take the field without gearing up for the challenge, so why would anyone allow an industrial athlete to operate their equipment without proper training?

IAU’s Forklift Certified Operator Training provides a comprehensive interactive, on-site training course designed around: (1) the specific motorized equipment used in the workplace, and, (2) the type and nature of workplace. This operator training course is fully-compliant with OSHA requirements for new operators and for operators requiring a refresher course (for whom evaluations must be done once every three years).

This training program will train operators on how to perform their job properly and safely, and will be evaluated  by a practical 25-point skill evaluation and a written test before becoming certified operators. The training format includes highly interactive facilitated classroom training, group discussion, and practical demonstration. Additionally, each worker will be required to follow-up the training with 15-day operational peer reviews and performance self-report to reinforce a safety focus and to reinforce learned skills.

Part I of the training on Truck Fundamentals and Basic Operational Skills includes:

  • Pre- and post-shift inspections
  • Truck controls and instruments
  • Steering and maneuvering around obstacles
  • Vehicle capacity and stability
  • Vehicle condition, incident, and PM reporting

Part II of the training on Understanding the Operating Environment includes:

  • Types of loads carried and considerations
  • Pedestrian and other PIT traffic
  • Operating environment conditions
  • Load manipulation (stacking, unstacking maneuvering)
  • Critical and unique facility navigation points

All training is conducted by an IAU-certified Industrial Coach with specific expertise on PIT/forklift operation. All training is preceded by a preliminary site survey and workplace review to help customize the program to each training location. True to IAU’s applied, industrial athletic approach, trainees will be drilled on applied skills, and will be run through several obstacle courses of increasing complexity in a safe operating environment to develop and hone their skills and approach to facility-specific challenges.

This training program is customized to the operating instructions, warnings, and precautions listed in the operator’s manual for the type of vehicle which is operated in your facility, including:

• High lift trucks • Low lift platform trucks
• Counter-balanced trucks • Cantilevered trucks
• Rider trucks • Forklift trucks
• High lift platform trucks • Low lift trucks
• Motorized hand trucks • Pallet jacks/trucks
• Narrow aisle rider trucks • Straddle trucks
• Reach rider trucks • Single side loader rider trucks
• High lift order picker rider trucks • Motorized hand/rider trucks

Each training workshop lasts eight (8) hours and has a minimum class size of three (3) participants and a maximum of ten (10) participants per class. Training class hours are made around our customer schedules across three shifts.
